Whilst the main collection focuses on shape, the High Craft section strikes with pure radiance. Here, Mary Katrantzou blurs the line between leather goods and jewellery in the most spectacular fashion: quite literally letting the leather vanish beneath layers of light.
The central motif is “Fireworks” – a pyrotechnic display captured in time. This is no metaphor, but mathematically precise work. The iconic Serpenti Forever Top Handle bag has been transformed into a wearable canvas set with exactly 8,348 crystals. Its Day-to-Night variant goes even further with nearly ten thousand stones (9,581). The effect is far from random – artisans employed nine different colours and three sizes of crystal to create a perfect gradient or a golden aura. Even the snakehead closure itself features a special diamond cut to sparkle like a gem in snow.
The artisanal pinnacle is represented by the Serpentine Duette model. Here, we enter the territory of haute couture. Upon soft gold calfskin, embroiderers manually apply conical stones and Swarovski beads using invisible clear threads. The result is a sculptural, vivid image of an exploding firework. The entire piece is framed by handles with engraved scales, directly citing watch designs from the 1960s.
