The Key to a Fairytale Château

The prestigious Michelin guide has awarded its new hotel distinction, the Michelin Key, in the Czech Republic for the first time. Chateau Mcely received one Key, placing it among the world’s most exceptional hotels.

The prestigious Michelin guide, with its 125-year history, has awarded its new hotel distinction – the Michelin Key – in the Czech Republic for the first time. Chateau Mcely was proudly among the recipients, earning one Michelin Key based on a detailed evaluation process. With this step, the château has officially entered the prestigious “crème de la crème” selection of the world’s most exceptional hotels. Receiving one Michelin Key signifies that the hotel is considered a true gem with its own character and personality. According to the inspectors, such an establishment always provides guests with something extra and offers much more than similarly priced hotels.

The Michelin guide itself does not hold back on praise in its review. It describes Chateau Mcely as “the modern five-star incarnation of a 17th-century hunting lodge” which, despite its rural location on the edge of the St. George Forest, is “decidedly palatial”. The guide further highlights the atmosphere of the place: “A stroll through the carefully manicured gardens… gives you a pretty good indication of what’s to come: a tribute to rural opulence that’s both detailed and dreamy — a fairy tale with attentive service.”

Alchemy, History, and Relaxation

The château’s magic is hidden in its 23 high-ceilinged rooms, which are brimming with old-world charm, from chandeliers sparkling above wrought-iron beds to writing desks that recall the days when the poet Rilke came to visit. The thorough renovation, however, was not limited to the rooms but also included the facilities. Guests can discover the library, which houses 18th-century scientific instruments, or the basement Alchemist Club, which melds high-tech wine preservation with a vintage 1950s jukebox. For deep relaxation, the on-site Mcely Bouquet Spa offers purely natural cosmetics, hand-blended in the château’s laboratory.

For the château’s founders, Inéz and James Cusumano, this award is a profound confirmation of their long-held vision. The Michelin guide recognised Chateau Mcely as a “cultural ambassador” that reflects the local identity and combines architectural vision, professionalism, and a distinct, kind service. This recognition affirms that genuine care, delivered with love in line with green principles and team values, is truly meaningful.
