What makes PGA National Czech Republic Oaks Prague exceptional? Director Paul Dennis reveals the vision for a luxury club built on top-tier hospitality and community.
I started playing at a very young age, my grandparents wanted me to play as they saw this as an advantage in almost any business in my future – I dont think they imagined I would turn it into a career! I joined Troon Golf, the worlds leading golf management company, in 2004 in London, UK. I have worked for them since, in 8 different countries spanning 10 different courses.
From a very young age I wanted to be a Club professional. After qualifying as a PGA professional, and working at various Clubs, my career took a massive shift when joining Troon, at a flagship property – The Grove, in London. From there I see myself as being in the hospitality business more than the golf business.
As I said, I see us in the hospitality business, and I believe thats what sets our experience above and beyond our guests expectations and our competitors. We treat all our members and guests with equality and consistency, and truly enjoy delivering superior guest service and course conditions. Its a combination of many different factors, some even very subtle, that set a Troon Experience above others. PGA National Czech Republic Oaks Prague is a place you can enjoy whether or not you are a golfer.
Kyle Phillips, the course designer, is regarded as one of the very best modern course designers in the world, penning 4 courses rated in the worlds top 100. The course here offers the best players in the world a true test of golf,, whilst also remaining very playable for the general golfer who wishes to play on of the best layouts found in central Europe. The course surrounds our historic 17th century Chateau which serves as the Clubhouse for our members and guests, offering a wonderful off-course experience.
We have the benefit of being very close to one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and as such guests can combine an amazing sight-seeing trip with a golfing experience only equalled in select courses around Europe. The Czech Republic as a whole offers genuine hospitality and we couple that with a fantastic course and team of associates.
Troon has a very structured program of how to deliver the very best guest experience, which is then tailored to suit the location and cultures of the Club and course. They hold us responsible to uphold the standards of Troon and deliver the Troon Experience to every guest we welcome. It is a philosphy of genuine hospitality that exceeds guest expectations.
From the very beggining of operations in 2019, in our temporary Clubhouse, we have always had a very good membership atmosphere and community. We are building the community at the Club, ahead of the Oaks community building up on the borders of the course. We host member events throughout the year, pair players up to increase interaction, and our friendly team go a long way to make sure that our members feel welcome and happy throughout their visit at the Club.
Its a key part of Club life. Across our 350 members there are many different types of people from all walks of life, from many different places. We host many member events and these are a great opportunity for our members to meet and interact. Many friendships and business relationships have been forged here over the relatively short time we have been open, and we are proud to be a part of this.
Events play a major part in a clubs success, and we host private corporate events and member events too. We also hosted the DP World Tour last year, which was televised globally and helped us push awareness of the club beyond our usual channels.
Currently as a club we are focusing on solidifying the experience we already offer, building the consistency of experience delivery, whilst looking at new ways we can enhance guest visits with small touches that make a big difference. Course improvements continue to be made, such as irrigation and drainage which assist us in maintaining the course at the highest levels. Larger improvements can be expected in the future but we will save news of that for when they happen.
The most important growth we are pushing is for in-bound golf tourism. The Czech Republic is an undiscovered gem of a golf destination, and we are trying to change that!
We have always been proud of our efforts to deliver a great golf experience whilst also focusing on how we do that in a way to enhance the environment around us; whether that is building nature habitats, water usage control and recycling, or managing waste and recycling. This is key for all courses to be successful in the modern world we live in.
If you are considering it, then its definately worth exploring. Without truly experiencing it, you will never really know whether the environment will suit you. This is why we introduced our Trial Membership, where golfers can spend a season deciding if the club is right for them before joining as full members. Our convernsion rate of this membership proces sis very high, as it gives us a chance to show people just how special we can make their visits to the club.
Fifth fairway, looking south. The Czech countryside is stunning, which often gets overlooked when people focus on Prague as the place to visit. Either that or there is a lake in the forest that not many people know is there. A very peaceful place to sit and destress.
Cars, and snowboarding. Having a young family limits spare time though!
Golf – delivering a memorable experience to our guests, and value to my ownership. Personal – bringing happiness and security to my family.
Please visit us! Whether or not you are a golfer, we offer a beautiful experience in a wonderful environment close to the stunning city of Prague.
