Maggie Gyllenhaal, Bianca Balti, Rebecca Donaldson and Emilia Schüle. At the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, Bvlgari High Jewellery emerged as one of the most striking protagonists on this year’s red carpet.
Venice feels perhaps even more magical during the film festival. Water taxis give way to limousines, the biggest names in international cinema arrive at the Palazzo del Cinema, and by evening, the Lido transforms into a showcase of haute couture and High Jewellery. This year’s 83rd edition, taking place from 2 to 12 September 2026, has once again brought the worlds of cinema, fashion and luxury to Venice.
And one motif stands out in particular this year: the Bvlgari Serpenti snake.
The Roman Maison’s icon appeared on several of the festival’s most prominent personalities. Diamonds, emeralds, rubies, pink tourmalines and tanzanites accompanied evening gowns, reminding us why jewellery on the Venetian red carpet so often becomes every bit as important as the dress itself.
MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL: THE JURY PRESIDENT IN SERPENTI
One of the central figures in Venice this year is Maggie Gyllenhaal. The American director, actress, screenwriter and producer is presiding over the international jury of the Venezia 83 Competition, which will also decide the recipient of the Golden Lion for Best Film. Venice holds particular professional significance for Gyllenhaal: her directorial debut, The Lost Daughter, won the award for Best Screenplay here in 2021.
For one of her looks, Bvlgari selected an extraordinary Serpenti High Jewellery necklace in 18-carat rose gold. Onyx details are complemented by two pear-shaped diamonds and diamond pavé totalling 22.18 carats. Gyllenhaal paired the necklace with a double Serpenti Viper ring in full diamond pavé and hoop earrings from the same collection.
The result is precisely the kind of combination Bvlgari masters so beautifully: a statement jewel, a powerful personality and an evening made for a touch of drama.
SERPENTI, THE SECOND ACT
Maggie Gyllenhaal returned to Bvlgari throughout the festival.
For another look, she chose a Serpenti High Jewellery ring and earrings in yellow and white gold, this time bringing rubies and diamonds into play. The earrings feature, among other stones, 36 marquise-cut diamonds and four pear-shaped rubies, while the ring combines 28 marquise-cut diamonds with eight rubies. She completed the look with a metallic Bvlgari Melone bag and black oval Serpenti Viper sunglasses.
Here, Serpenti plays its role to perfection: both a jewel and an instantly recognisable symbol of the Maison.
BIANCA BALTI: COLOUR IN HIGH JEWELLERY
While Maggie Gyllenhaal embraced the graphic power of Serpenti, Italian top model and Bvlgari ambassador Bianca Balti brought an explosion of colour to Venice.
Her Bvlgari High Jewellery necklace combined 18-carat rose gold with onyx, tanzanites, pink tourmalines and diamond pavé. According to the Maison, the two cushion-cut tanzanites total an impressive 43.12 carats, while the three cushion-cut pink tourmalines add another 50.88 carats.
Balti paired the necklace with rose-gold and onyx earrings set with two pink tourmalines totalling 18.26 carats and diamonds.
Coloured gemstones are among Bvlgari’s most distinctive signatures. In Venice, their intensity comes fully alive, giving the jewellery an almost cinematic presence.
REBECCA DONALDSON: EMERALDS AND ROSE GOLD
Model Rebecca Donaldson chose another interpretation of Serpenti.
Her 18-carat rose-gold necklace is embellished with two emeralds and diamond pavé. She paired it with a bracelet from the same collection, also featuring two emeralds and diamonds.
The vivid green of emeralds against rose gold gives Serpenti one of its most distinctive expressions. The snake motif has been woven into Bvlgari’s history for generations, and the Maison’s ability to continually reinterpret its curves, head and scales has transformed it into one of the world’s most recognisable jewellery icons.
EMILIA SCHÜLE: MANDARIN GARNETS AND RUBELLITES
Actress Emilia Schüle went for an even more colourful direction. Her Bvlgari high jewellery earrings combined rose gold, two pear-cut mandarin garnets, round diamonds, 28 rubellites, and additional step-cut and pavé diamonds. She paired them with a Serpenti ring in 18-karat rose gold.
This is Bvlgari at its most Italian: gemstones, colour, and a grand gesture.
VENICE AND BVLGARI
The connection between Bvlgari and the world of cinema feels entirely natural in Venice. The festival ranks among the world’s oldest and most prestigious cinematic events, and this year’s main jury, chaired by Maggie Gyllenhaal, will decide the Golden Lion as well as the festival’s other major awards. Joining her on the jury are, among others, Kaouther Ben Hania, Daniel Blumberg, Xavier Giannoli, Shahrbanoo Sadat and Johnnie To.
