Louis Vuitton continues its exceptional horological journey with the Escales Autour du Monde collection, this time turning its attention to Japan. The new Escale au Mont Fuji model is a unique pocket watch that pays tribute to one of the world’s most iconic landscapes — Mount Fuji bathed in the delicate light of a spring morning.
Following motifs inspired by Paris and the Amazon rainforest, this new chapter celebrates the serenity, beauty, and symbolism of the Land of the Rising Sun. On the dial, a miniature theatre unfolds: a fishing boat glides across the water, golden Louis Vuitton trunks gently open and close, cherry blossoms sway in the breeze, and a golden compass rose turns above the landscape. The entire composition captures the moment when the day is born in pastel shades of pink, blue, and gold.
This extraordinary scene is brought to life by a jacquemart mechanism with four animations, a minute repeater, and a tourbillon. Inside the watch beats the manually wound LFT AU 14.03 calibre, composed of 561 components and offering an eight-day power reserve. Two hands are placed on the back of the watch, allowing the front to remain entirely devoted to artistic storytelling.
The model was created at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton in Geneva, where several specialised workshops came together to craft a piece that stands at the crossroads of high watchmaking and artistic craftsmanship. Here, engraving, enamel, and mechanical construction are not mere decoration, but a language of emotion, detail, and extraordinary patience.
The dial features 33 pastel enamel shades, and the entire process required 40 firings. The sky with its delicate Monogram flowers, the shimmering river, the silhouette of Mount Fuji, and the tiny cherry blossoms create a sense of depth and atmosphere that feels almost painterly. Every detail, from the face of the fisherman Ebisu to the engraving on the side of the case, reflects remarkable precision and deep respect for traditional techniques.
The white gold bezel is set with 60 baguette-cut sapphires totalling 3.74 carats, their colour gradient echoing the palette of the dial. The 50 mm case is complemented by a handcrafted gold chain and a pair of exclusive leather accessories custom-made in the Maison’s historic workshops in Asnières.
Escale au Mont Fuji is more than a watch. It is a poetic interpretation of travel, artisanal mastery, and quiet luxury — one that does not assert itself through loudness, but through the depth of its detail. Here, Louis Vuitton once again confirms that true exceptionality is born where technical virtuosity meets emotion, culture, and beauty.
