There are collaborations that are not created simply to attract attention. They are created to give design a new direction. This is precisely the category into which the ongoing partnership between Hublot and British designer Samuel Ross falls, now entering a new phase with the unveiling of the Big Bang Unico SR_A. The result is a timepiece defined not only by technical sophistication, but also by a strong visual identity, architectural precision and a distinctly contemporary vision of luxury.
This new release marks the very first signed SR_A model equipped with the Manufacture’s Unico chronograph calibre, one of the most distinctive movements in Hublot’s portfolio. It is here that the most essential elements of both worlds come together: the iconic watchmaking technology of Hublot and the industrial design signature of Samuel Ross, whose work has long explored structure, material and bold geometry.
Limited to 200 pieces, the Big Bang Unico SR_A makes an impression of radical purity at first glance. Black ceramic is not merely an aesthetic choice here, but part of the overall philosophy. The monochrome execution returns the watch to an essential, almost ascetic expression in which form, construction and detail stand out with clarity. The 42 mm case in satin-finished and polished black ceramic builds on the strong architecture of the Big Bang line, yet in Ross’s interpretation it takes on an even more contemporary, stricter and more sculptural character.
The black skeleton dial also works with the idea of openness and structural honesty. It reveals key components of the HUB1280 Unico calibre, including the visible column wheel at 6 o’clock and the open chronograph mechanism. Transparency does not function here as a purely dramatic effect, but as part of a broader aesthetic of performance. The watch feels like a precisely designed object in which technology is not simply hidden within, but becomes a fully integrated part of the visual experience.
The Unico Manufacture movement itself is one of the key pillars of Hublot’s identity. Since its launch in 2010, it has represented the brand’s independence, technical boldness and distinctive watchmaking language. It offers a flyback chronograph, a silicon escapement and a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. It is robust, high-performing and visually expressive at once — entirely in the spirit of Hublot, which has long built its world around the philosophy of Art of Fusion.
